Quality gates for batch image jobs
A batch workflow is ready for production only when a bad input, failed generation or wrong export is caught before the file reaches a client or campaign. The gate should make routine jobs easy to approve and unusual jobs easy to stop, with enough context to reproduce a decision later.
Validate the job before generation
Give every job a manifest with a project ID, approved source folder, model and workflow versions, output size, number of candidates, delivery format and reviewer. Reject unknown or oversized inputs instead of processing them by default. If files arrive through an upload or shared intake, follow secure handling practices such as allow-listing formats, validating the actual file type and using application-generated storage names; OWASP’s File Upload Cheat Sheet describes these controls.
Separate automatic checks from creative approval
Automatic checks can catch missing outputs, wrong dimensions, unsupported file types, empty files, naming problems and obvious corruption. They cannot decide whether a product shape, brand color or composition is acceptable. Put machine-detectable rules first, then route a contact sheet and the brief to a named art director. Keep “approved,” “needs edit” and “rejected” states explicit so no folder is treated as approval by implication.
For each accepted file, keep the brief, source version, generation settings and reviewer decision together. For a rejection, record a short reason such as incorrect crop or wrong product detail; that makes a repeated failure visible without pretending every aesthetic decision can be reduced to a score. Quarantine unusual outputs for review, and keep the previous approved batch available until the replacement clears the same gate.
Checklist before delivery
- Confirm the manifest and file count match the brief.
- Open a sample at full size and inspect every exception flagged automatically.
- Check the export profile, naming convention and destination folder.
- Record who approved the batch and the version that shipped.
- Keep a rollback path if a wrong asset is copied downstream.
